About Our Health and Wellness Program
In 2023, Twin Cities Elite launched their Health and Wellness program with the desire to provide more than just education about the sport of volleyball. Coaches and staff alike recognized the need to treat our players as a whole person which meant delving into the areas of mental health and nutrition.
Our Coaches Alex and Alana were inspired by this dream and worked diligently to create our first ever Wellness Seminar. Alex Brooks holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor in Family Studies and Human Development and is completing her Master's Degree in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health and Alana St. Cyr is a certified Personal Trainer and also works as a Nutrition Coach.
During our 2024 season, Alex and Alana hosted three sessions educating our parents and players on mental well being, handling performance anxiety, and the importance of having an identity outside of sports and education as well as nutrition as fuel and the best ways to acheive that.
Additionally, TCE partnered with Aaron Sidner to provide players with weekly Strength and Conditioning sessions.
Their hard work earned our program a grant from JVA to further expand our program in our 2025 season. Our Program Director, Alyssa Wise, has worked diligently to find other organizations and professionals to partner with that will help us expand on what Coaches Alex and Alana started, and serve our community with much needed education and resources.
Nutrition is am imperative part of being a student athlete. We were joined by Brooke Dummer from Training Haus for an evening and she spent time educating our athletes and their parents on ways to properly fuel for performance and recovery. Check out the Slideshow here: Performance Nutrition
Parents had the opportunity to join us for dinner and get some information regarding mental health concerns that student athlete's often face and resources on how to help. The handout can be downloaded here: Supporting Student Athlete Mental Health
Our athletes spent some time learning about the importance of caring for themselves as a whole person; student, athlete, daughter, sister, friend. We discussed how to set realistic goals, the importance of a sleep routine, how to manage our time, and what to do when we feel overwhelmed. Download that worksheet here: Balancing Life as a Student Athlete
